Process Until Use

The selected device is not compatible with the required app for reservation. Please take the following steps.

Before Departing

Customers with an au contract can check their data charge subscription status

To use the au Unlimited Data Overseas, you must be subscribed to Data Charge. (Free)

Customers with UQ mobile or povo 1.0 contracts do not need to check their data charge subscription status.

Check your subscription status and apply by clicking the button below.

Turn ON the overseas settings for your device. ^＊1

Using data communications

In "Mobile network", go to "Network mode" and select "Automatic".

Check "Data Roaming".

When subscribed to Data Charge, you will not incur any data communications charges at your travel destination until you push "start services".

Setting example) Using data communications

Settings → 8.Communications and networks → Network settings → Mobile network → Network mode → Automatic → Set "Data Roaming" to ON

Please note that menu names and procedures may vary depending on the device. For more details, please refer to the user manual.

If you are still unable to use the service at your destination after making the above settings, please turn your device OFF/ON again and check once more.

Making calls and using SMS

In "Mobile network", go to "Network mode" and select "Automatic".

Depending on the model, some menu names and procedures may differ. See the user manual for more information.

After arriving

From the settings, check that "Data Roaming" is set to on.

Check the au World Service Notification SMS (there is no charge for receiving it).

By clicking the URL in the SMS notification, your browser is launched and the "start service" screen is displayed.

No charges incurred for the SMS you receive.

When subscribed to Data Charge, you will not incur any data communications charges until you push "利用開始(Start using)"

If you are using a device that does not support SMS, such as an iPad, or if you are unable to receive the SMS notification due to signal conditions, please directly launch your browser and enter the URL below. (This URL is for access from overseas only. It cannot be accessed from within Japan.)

After returning

Restore the settings for use in Japan

If "Automatic" is selected for the network mode, you can use the device as-is.

Or, switch the network mode to "Japan (4G)" to use.

4G LTE Feature phone

Center key → Settings → 8.Communications and networks → Network settings → Mobile network → Network mode → Japan (4G)
