Sending text messages (International SMS)
Service introduction
You can use SMS just as you always do even when messaging overseas mobile phones.
A text message can be sent from an au mobile phone to a phone number of a local mobile phone overseas.
You can use the free call time included in your au rate plan for International SMS.
How to use
Sending messages
(Display the Create SMS screen)

Enter an address
「010」+ country code + phone number
- If the phone number starts with a 0, do not enter that 0.

Enter your message
- Up to 160 single-byte or 70 double-byte characters (the number of characters that can be sent may vary depending on the device).
- Single-byte alphanumeric characters are recommended.

Send
- International SMS will be stored. When "Store?" is displayed, select "Yes" to send.

- You can use the free call time included in au rate plans (including Plan W) for international SMS.
Eligible carriers
Information on using "International SMS"
- Mobile Number Portability (MNP) customers may not be able to use International SMS.
- This service is for mobile devices that support SMS (C-mail).
- Customers using MOTOROLA RAZR™ IS12M will need to upgrade to Android4.0 to use this service.
- Prepaid Service mobile phones as well as some older models of mobile phones will not be able to use this service.
- International SMS communication charges are not eligible for the discounts that come with each rate plan.
- Communications charges will apply when sending International SMS (no communications charges are applied when receiving SMS). Communications charges may also be applied even when unable to send SMS due to sending errors or other causes.
- Communications charges will also apply when an international SMS does not reach a recipient due to the circumstances of an overseas carrier.
- Text that can be displayed on au mobile phones can be sent. However, the sent text may not be displayed properly on some mobile phones offered by overseas characters.
- It may be possible to use International SMS with carriers other than the connected carriers specified above. In these cases, communication charges still apply.
