【au Email Portability】Can I continue to use my au Email Portability email address even after returning to au?

If you use the same au phone number as before applying for au Email Portability, you can continue to use your au email address.
After canceling au Email Portability, please re-acquire the email address. Refer to below for detailed instructions.
(The email data cannot be transferred. You must re-acquire an email address within 540 days after canceling au Email Portability.)
You can also continue to use au Email Portability for a monthly fee of 330 yen (tax included).

STEP 0: Check the terms of use for re-acquiring the email address

<Terms of use>

  • You must have re-joined au with the same phone number as before applying for au Email Portability

  • Before reacquiring, you must cancel the au Email Portability service
    • Upon cancellation, any email sent or received through au Email Portability will be deleted from the mail server and will no longer be viewable

    • For iPhone users, any notes associated with the email address on the iPhone will be deleted
  • You must reacquire the email address within 540 days after canceling au Email Portability

Step 1: Back up or transfer necessary emails

Emails sent and received using the au Email Portability will be deleted from the email server after the email address is reacquired.

Please back up or transfer the necessary emails in advance.

For customers using the Android au Email app (Tap to open)

You can view the email data even after re-acquiring the email address by copying the email data to the Save [保存] folder in advance → back up → cancel au Email Portability → restore the email data.

  • For the following 4 models: Galaxy S8+ SCV35, Galaxy S8 SCV36, AQUOS R SHV39 and HTC U11 HTV33, it is not possible to restore the email data from the au Email app to the email app.

<How to backup>

    Open the folder (such as the Inbox) you want to save from the au Email app and tap on "Select" [選択] in the upper right corner of the screen.

    Tap on the checkbox to the left of the email you want to save to select it.
    (If you want to save everything at once, tap on "Select all" [全選択])
    After selecting, tap on "Save" [保存].

    Copied the email to the "Save folder" [保存フォルダ].

    By tapping on "Save" [保存], you can view the emails that have been copied to the "Save Folder" [保存フォルダ].

    Tap on the menu button at the top left of the screen.

    Tap on "App Settings"[アプリ設定].

    Tap on "Backup and Restore"[バックアップ・復元]to back up your email data to your SD card or Google Drive.

STEP2: Cancel au Email Portability

    Access the "My Page" of au Email Portability.

  • 2

    Scroll the screen and tap on "Cancel Service" [サービスの解約] at the bottom.

    After confirming the email address that you want to cancel, tap on  "Proceed to confirmation screen" [確認画面に進む].

    Check the notes and tap on "Agree to the notes and cancel" [注意事項に同意して解約する].

    When the "Cancellation Complete" [解約完了] screen is displayed, the cancellation of au Email Portability service is done.

STEP3: Restore emails (only for those who backed up using the Android au Email app)

If you have backed up your emails using the Android au Email app, please restore your emails. 
Otherwise, please proceed to STEP4. 

STEP 4: Re-acquire the au email address you have been using from the email address change screen

On the email address change screen, re-acquire the email address used when using au Email Portability.

Please note

On the "Change email address" [メールアドレスの変更] screen, enter your email address according to the input method below.

  • If you want to re-acquire the email address "○○○○@ezweb.ne.jp": Enter "○○○○@ezweb.ne.jp" in the input field
    • Please be sure the domain is included . (Enter everything including after the @ mark) If there is no domain, an error will occur
  • If the email address you want to reacquire is "○○○○@au.com": Enter "○○○○" in the input field.
    • Please enter without including the domain (enter to the left of the @ mark)

Reference (If you cannot find the button of "Change address and Spam settings" [アドレス変更/迷惑メール設定] in the Android au Email app)

If the button of "Change Address and Spam Settings" is not displayed on the side menu of the au Email app, you need to delete the data in the app.

How to delete data from the au Email app

  • Item names may vary depending on the device model you are using

  • If the au Email app is on the home screen, do long-tap → select "App information" [アプリ情報] to proceed to step 3

    Tap on "Apps" [アプリ] in the "Settings" [設定] app.

    Find "au Email" [auメール] from the list of apps and tap on it.

  • 3

    Tap on "Storage" [ストレージ].

  • 4

    Tap on "Clear Data" [データを消去].

  • 5

    Return to the home screen and tap on "au Email app" [auメールアプリ].
    Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the initial setup.

  • All of the indicated amounts exclude tax unless otherwise specified.
